English: To analyse 'Carnival Jumbie'

In this lesson, we will read 'Carnival Jumbie' and listen to a reading by John Lyons from CLPE. We will learn about the context and then analyse the poem's structure, language, themes and tone. Please note this lesson covers slavery and enslaved people. If this is a sensitive topic for your child then please make sure they are adequately supervised. Children will be looking at safety signs outside and know their importance. Laws will be explored and children will watch a police officer being interviewed. They will end the lesson by creating their own rules.
